Intravia, Jonathan, Kevin T. Wolff, Benjamin R. Gibbs, and Alex R. Piquero (2016). Violent Attitudes and Antisocial Behavior among a College Sample. Deviant Behavior, Forthcoming.
Drawing on Elijah Anderson’s (1999) Code of the Street thesis, this study assesses the generalizability of street code attitudes among a sample of college students from a large Midwest university. Findings suggest that street code attitudes are in fact generalizable to a college student population and are highly related to strain constructs among that group. Further street code attitudes are predictive of criminal behavior, however, the effect becomes non-significant once measures of strain are included.
