Organizational Structure

The Research & Evaluation Center is an applied research organization and part of the Research Consortium of John Jay College. Established in 1975, the Center provides members of the academic community of John Jay College with opportunities to respond to the research needs of justice practitioners in New York City, New York State, and the nation.

The Center assists public and private agencies affiliated with the justice system by conducting research and evaluation studies of crime prevention strategies, the effectiveness of justice interventions on individual behavior, and efforts to improve the impact and efficiency of justice system operations.

The director of the Research & Evaluation Center is Dr. Jeffrey A. Butts, who joined the Center in February 2010. As part of the Research Consortium of John Jay College, the Center operates under the supervision of the Office for the Advancement of Research (OAR), headed by the Associate Provost and Dean of Research at John Jay College.
