Researchers at JohnJayREC were contracted to support the New York Governor’s Office in assessing the public safety benefits of financial investments in four key anti-violence initiatives across the state: Gun Involved Violence Elimination (GIVE) Initiative and Operation SNUG, Respond, Invest, Sustain and Empower (RISE) programs, and the Crime Analysis Centers. The initiatives aimed to improve public safety through community-based intervention, law enforcement, and evidence-based strategies to reduce crime and violence. Researchers from JohnJayREC enlisted the assistance of the research team from John Jay College’s Data Collaborative for Justice (DCJ) to assess how the investments influenced patterns of violent crime in local jurisdictions. The project team gathered funding information and crime data to estimate the impact of each program across the state on violent crime trends.
