The Research and Evaluation Center is developing a policy analysis and review about the Thrive Academy in Maryland, an effort to prevent youth gun violence in partnership with the State’s Department of Juvenile Justice and a multi-government agency and community stakeholder program known as the Community Investment Initiative (CII).

A study released by John Jay College of Criminal Justice in February paints a different picture of youth violence in New York City, however.
“It’s an international embarrassment. America is by far the most plagued civilized nation by gun violence and gun deaths,” said Jeffrey Butts, a research professor at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice based in New York City.
Once largely a symbol of privilege and status, gun ownership has become a way for men to prove their masculinity, said Jeffrey Butts, director of the Research and Evaluation Center at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
